As a designer or an artisan looking to make not only a living doing what we love, we often work hard, day in and day out.
Sometimes, it takes artists years to get noticed. Sometimes, they don’t get noticed at all.
At Beau Satchelle, we are so pleased to not only get to do what we love most in the world – design beautiful items for wonderful, fascinating people – but to get some notice in the fashion world.
We were so proud to be one of 20 artists, artisans and designers from 10 countries to be featured in Stalletto Magazine’s 2017 Summer Flowers Edition.
The magazine, a quarterly on-demand print and digital fashion and lifestyle magazine filled with designers, artist, stunning photography, travel, food as well as poetry and titillating articles, is always on point. Fashionistas turn to this publication for fashion icons, inspiration, and to be transformed by its words and photos. Stalletto’s lookbooks and picture books of actors, models as well as additional fashion and art are not only visually amazing, but educational. In short, we love the magazine and admire Ava, Editor-in-Chief and her spectacular team of people who work there.
Apparently, our work at Beau Satchelle, creating beautiful, bespoke leather and exotic handbags, briefcases, purses, clutches, hat box bags, journals and wine carriers, totes and connoisseur specialties in Detroit, Michigan, caught their eye. We were artisans in an auto manufacturing city, and they loved it. We were so thrilled that they decided to feature our duo – April, who handles the administrative side of the business, and Ty, who works full-time on design, product and website development, social media, marketing and advertising.
They loved our goals, which was to create bespoke luxury for discerning individuals. In an era where mass marketing reigns supreme, and woman everywhere are carrying well-known labels like Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors and Coach bags, we were refreshing. They saw that our luxury goods were just as high quality (heirloom quality) and just as functional, but they stood out because they were different.
Today’s customers are the same as they were in the past, yet different. They still want quality goods that will last a lifetime and then some, but they’re not as concerned about labels and carrying big brand names as their predecessors were. They want something different, and to stand out.
Beau Satchelle is the solution. Whether you are looking for a travel bag, a wine tote for a day adventure or a glamorous clutch for a night on the town, we have what you are looking for.
The article details how we handcraft our bespoke leather goods, from design to pattern making, sampling to modifications, and describes how we hand-cut our top materials and assemble them by hand-stitching and burnishing the edges. It describes how Ty Michael found a gap in Detroit’s handbag selection, and how his handmade luxury goods filled that gap for quality bespoke bags. Read on, and you’ll get a look into our world – and perhaps a new appreciation for what we do and why we do it. – The Beau Satchelle Family
